In exactly one month, Celtic take to the field against Kilmarnock and begin their quest for another Scottish Premiership title.

Excitement is building ahead of the new campaign, with pre-season now underway. The clash also provides supporters a final chance to celebrate 2023/24’s glories, where a crescendo of noise at Parkhead meets the countdown to hoisting the league flag high.

Over the years, special guests have been invited by Celtic to take part in the famous unfurling. Closer to the time, more information will be available on that front.

With the first friendly match of 2024/25 pencilled in against Ayr United tomorrow evening, supporters are edging nearer to seeing their heroes back in action.

Brendan Rodgers looks ahead to Flag Day

Flag Day is a crystalising moment for many reasons which don’t require an explanation, but it also serves as a reminder of the task ahead in the Scottish Premiership.

Winning Scotland’s top prize is a brilliant achievement for supporters to revel in; nevertheless, as soon as the players cross the white line on opening day, the objective is to prove you can repeat the trick.

Rodgers is under no illusions in that respect; however, the Irishman is also excited to see the Bhoys have their efforts recognised against Kilmarnock.

He stated [Celtic TV]: “It’s a great day. That flag goes up and it’s a symbol of the great work we’ve done the season before. But it’s also a sign for everyone – players, staff and supporters – of the challenges that are ahead and they start on that very day. It’s a wonderful day to have those feelings about what we achieved. But also knowing it’s the start of another really exciting season.”

Anticipation is bubbling away as fans await the new Scottish Premiership campaign. Nevertheless, first and foremost, Celtic must make inroads in the market to properly equip Rodgers for his title defence.

Adam Idah is in the frame to return if the Bhoys can thrash out a deal with Norwich for his services. Similarly, Paulo Bernardo is playing a waiting game at Benfica. Getting both of their signatures over the line would be a handy start alongside a new goalkeeper.

Either way, the real stuff is getting closer. For now, Celtic fans will enjoy pre-season, which includes a glamour three-match tour in the United States against DC United, Manchester City and Chelsea. Not bad preparation!
