Celtic enjoyed a comfortable 4-0 victory over Motherwell yesterday as Brendan Rodgers’ men put on a dominant display in their penultimate Scottish Premiership fixture of 2024.

Following a frustrating opening 45 minutes, Arne Engels opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Aston Oxborough was adjudged to have fouled Hyunjun Yang inside the area.

The goals started to flow in the second half, with Daizen Maeda, Nicolas Kuhn and Reo Hatate rounding off another excellent afternoon for Celtic in the context of their Scottish Premiership season.

Now 12 points clear of Rangers, the title’s destination is currently weighted heavily in one direction as the year draws at Parkhead.

Brendan Rodgers managed to get his side back firing on all cylinders yesterday, and there is no coincidence their relentless showing coincided with the return of one of their key stars.

Brendan Rodgers hails Nicolas Kuhn return from injury for Celtic

Speaking post-match, Rodgers hailed Nicolas Kuhn’s return from injury for Celtic as his side saw off Motherwell to extend their lead at the Scottish Premiership summit.

He stated after he came off the bench to score: “You look at the two wingers, you know, they’re doing their job very well, creating goals, scoring goals.

“It’s great to have Nicolas back, just his speed and direct running and dribbling ability. Now he’s got the taste for goals; he wants to get in there.

“He had a brilliant pass as well to Reo towards the end which maybe could have got another goal. But overall, it was really good to have him back.”

Nicolas Kuhn has been imperious for Celtic this season

Putting up some phenomenal numbers for Celtic this season, Kuhn has registered 13 goals and 11 assists in 24 appearances and is the Bhoys’ standout candidate for player of the year at the moment.

Without his presence, you could see the Hoops’ struggled to take advantage against Dundee United last weekend, and his introduction against Motherwell yesterday helped to put the scoreline beyond doubt.

While the January window will throw up questions over where to add competition for places, Kuhn is one man who can be fairly sure of his place in the starting line-up moving forward.
