The injuries that Cameron Carter-Vickers has sustained this season have really frustrated the Celtic fans, the manager and even the player himself.
The US international has seen his season curtailed with a recurring hamstring injury that has seen him miss 20 games so far this season for Celtic. [Transfermarkt]
Out of those games, Celtic have been knocked out of the League Cup and dropped seven points in the league so it is clear that when Carter-Vickers doesn’t play, neither do Celtic.
The defender missed out on Saturday’s 4-2 win over Livingston as a precaution and whilst Rodgers believes he will be okay to join in with the Celtic first-team training sessions this week, he does have a theory why Carter-Vickers is picking up more injuries than usual.
Carter-Vickers’ knee operation still causing issues
The Celtic defender was sent for an operation on an issue he had with his knee towards the end of last season.
And whilst the knee itself seems ok, Rodgers believes the fallout from that operation is causing Carter-Vickers more problems.
Rodgers said [Celtic TV], “We will have a look at Cameron Carter Vickers, he should be fine, it was a precaution. I spoke to Cam at length this morning, he just feels everything is based from around his knee operation.
“Also, when you have picked up a few injuries from that, you get that sensation and think it’s linked to another injury.
“Thankfully, it doesn’t seem to be that. We’ve had the scan which has come through fine, he’s done some work with the medical team and hopefully, he will rejoin the training squad on Thursday and Friday.”
Carter-Vickers is such an important player for Celtic. Against Motherwell two weeks ago the introduction of the defender changed the whole game as Celtic went on to win the match 3-1 after coming from behind.
The back four just seems a whole lot more settled when he is in the side and, hopefully, Carter-Vickers will be fit enough to play some part in the upcoming Scottish Premiership match against St Johnstone at Celtic Park.
