Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has issued an update on where his side are at in the hunt for January reinforcements to strengthen squad depth.

Earlier today, Nicolas Kuhn and Daizen Maeda were ruled doubtful to face Ross County. Should they miss out, the Bhoys may have a decision to make on who to play out wide in the Highlands.

Luis Palma is also absent due to bereavement, and James Forrest’s injury troubles have stretched Celtic’s first-team squad depth. Only Hyunjun Yang is fit and that alone should guarantee the South Korea international a start tomorrow lunchtime.

Hopefully, setbacks involving all are only minor, but it does serve as a reminder that bolstering the wide areas is a priority for the Bhoys this month. Every team is decimated by fitness issues at present, and the reigning Scottish Premiership champions are no different in that respect.

Aside from the wide berths, Brendan Rodgers has given his latest forecast on what the January transfer window could look like for Celtic.

Brendan Rodgers delivers confident Celtic transfer update

Speaking ahead of the Bhoys’ trip to Dingwall, Rodgers has made it clear that he is hopeful additions can materialise, with a particular focus on adding ‘more attacking threat and more goals’ to the side.

He said: “We’ve obviously been working hard over the number of months leading to this period. As I said, we’re very hopeful that we can get players in that we would like but, always, availability and the affordability of players is always something that is a challenge in this month.

“But I’m fairly confident that we will be able to bring in the necessary changes to the squad that can help us. I’ve said before, I want to be able to bring in more attacking threat and more goals into our squad.

I think January is always a really good month in order to add that freshness to your team. It’s just about “getting those deals over the line. I’m fairly hopeful that we can do that.”

Celtic targets to strengthen both flanks this window

The need for a winger or two to make their way into the building is growing by the minute, but who could the club look to bring in during the month?

According to reports, Lazio’s Gustav Isaksen is a Celtic target once again, though could cost around £12.5 million to prize away from the Serie A outfit.

Similarly, Royal Antwerp star Michel-Ange Balikwisha is known to the Bhoys and comes in at around the £5 million mark in terms of availability.

The last word of that sentence is what Celtic desperately need right now. However, if injury issues hold, they have slim options to choose from at present.
