Brendan Rodgers has shared that he spoke to Tynecastle referee, Don Robertson, immediately after full-time in Celtic’s loss to Hearts.

The match officials have come under some serious scrutiny after Rodgers fumed at two decisions that cost Celtic dear in the capital.

And here, the Celtic manager shares a fruitless conversation he has with match referee, Don Robertson, in the Tynecastle tournament.

Rodgers said [The Celtic Way], “I spoke to him in the tunnel just briefly, but it’s a waste of time if I’m honest.

“There is no change and I also think as well that VAR is not the problem here. That’s clear.

It’s incompetence. I think the first one is a great example of the game being refereed outside of the pitch.

“This is the thing everyone is talking about, that the officials do their job and if it’s something that’s clear and obvious maybe step in.

“The referee made the decision and someone outside made another decision to say it was a sending-off. So that’s the game being refereed outside of the field and in big games that costs you.”

With all the chat this morning surrounding VAR the pressure on the officials has now been heightened after the two blunders at Tynecastle.

With nine games left, Brendan Rodgers knows he can’t afford any further slipups as the games tick down so the Celtic manager will really need to look at what Ange Postecoglou did when he was the manager.

Put teams to bed early so that refereeing mistakes will have no bearing on the final outcome of any game.

It still remains to be seen whether this defeat will have a final bearing on the title race but should Celtic still be behind Rangers by two points at the end of the season, many will look at the Tynecastle result as one that may have cost Rodgers the title.
