Brendan Rodgers will definitely want new recruits in the door at Celtic this month.

The manager has already made it clear he hopes to bring in new faces and yesterday’s derby defeat to Rangers only goes to show the squad are perhaps not quite the finished article yet.

Rodgers wants attacking players to join Celtic in the January window having previously brought in Adam Idah and Nicolas Kuhn this time last year.

But pundit Andy Walker reckons the boss should make a striker his priority.

And he says a loan move – similar to the Idah swoop last year from Norwich City – may well be the ideal scenario.

Kyogo has been the main man at Parkhead for some time with Idah struggling since his permanent switch in the summer to hit the same heights as last season.

While Rodgers wants two wingers in January, Walker took a look at the bench against Gers and he felt they were lacking striker options.

That’s why Walker hopes his old side look towards a new frontman to compete with Kyogo and Idah and he believes they might benefit from a loan as it would avoid spending big until the summer.

Andy Walker believes Celtic should land a striker on loan

“Well, Maeda can play through the middle if you had a real problem, but obviously Kyogo is the number one recognised striker,” the ex-Celtic striker told Go Radio.

“Idah, they sort of take it in turns, but you look at the bench today and you’ve got wide players.

“Apart from Idah, you’ve got wide players.

Palma is there, Yang is there, Forrest wasn’t on the bench today, he wasn’t involved, but who knows?

“They might go for someone on loan, just to, because they have Champions League football, remember, and I think you can, you can re-register.

“I don’t know if you can over for the next round.”

How Celtic’s current strikers’ goals stack up this season

Mathias Kvistgaarden is one striker Celtic have been linked with.

He also had a strike disallowed vs Gers for an offside while he missed a half-chance within 72 seconds at Ibrox.

Idah has toiled in front of goal this term but still has a handful.
