Nuri Sahin’s side took Celtic apart in the Westenfallonstadion on Tuesday night but Andy Walker believes that Liam Scales was the one defender who put in a good performance despite shipping seven goals.
Walker told The Go Radio Football Show, “I mean, obviously, with Trusty and Scales, I thought Scales played well despite losing the seven goals.
“Some of his clearances, some of his interceptions, I thought were good. I think he’s a player in good form.”

In truth, it is difficult to take any positivity from such a heavy defeat but, remarkably, Walker is correct. The stats show that Scales did put in a good defensive shift despite the humbling in Dortmund.
Despite being rated 5.1 by Fotmob, Scales made six clearances, four headed clearances and two interceptions against last season’s Champions League finalists.
The Republic of Ireland defender also made nine defensive actions, three clearances and won six duels. Scales also won five out of his six aerial battles as he tried to keep the Dortmund attack at bay.
The consistency Scales has carried on from last season to this is remarkable and he will be crucial for Celtic today in Dingwall with Cameron Carter-Vickers still out of the team due to injury.
