Brendan Rodgers told he has made ‘the signing of the summer’ and warned about potential Celtic exit

Brendan Rodgers has discovered a couple of transfer gems since his return to Celtic two summers ago.

The Celtic manager has signed top young talents like Arne Engels and Adam Idah as well as adding the experience of former Dundee captain Luke McCowan and Auston Trusty.

Not all of these signings have hit the ground running, but they have all played a part in Celtic’s successes over the last two seasons.

However, Rodgers has been told that he has already made the best signing of the summer so far but has been warned about a potential Celtic transfer exit this summer by former player, Simon Donnelly.

Simon Donnelly warns Celtic about selling Nicolas Kuhn

Donnelly was speaking about Celtic’s transfer business this summer and has told Rodgers that he should ‘be careful what you wish for’ if he decided to sell Nicolas Kuhn.

The German winger has been linked with a £15m Celtic exit to RB Leipzig and Donnelly reckons that move could prove to be a mistake.

Donnelly told Superscoreboard, “You can’t argue about his season and his numbers. There was a period where he was attracting a lot of interest because he was doing so well in the Champions League, scoring goals, performing well, and then I thought his form dipped a little bit towards the end of the season.

“But when you look from a wide player, I think his goals and assists were very, very good.

“At one point, I think he was pushing Daizen Maeda for Player of the Year. Maeda just kept going, he was consistent right through.

“I don’t know how I feel about it. Jota is going to be a little bit away through injury. I’m not sure. It’s one of those ones, careful what you wish for.

“Can you get somebody to come in and have that many assists and goals, right from the off? We don’t know.”

Kieran Tierney is Celtic’s signing of the summer

Kieran Tierney’s Celtic return was long-awaited and when the club officially announced the former Arsenal man’s return to Parkhead two weeks ago, Donnelly says Rodgers made the ‘signing of the summer’.

Donnelly continued, “Kuhn had a slow start the season before, so we’ll wait and see. They will be doing a lot of work in the background.

“Wide players are the ones that have been linked, so they are obviously looking in that area again. Whether they know Kuhn’s away, time will tell.

“I think a striker and maybe a centre-back as well, looking at those areas. I think Kieran Tierney is the signing of the summer. If he comes back and is fit and firing, he’s the top signing so far.”

Rodgers appears to be getting his transfer business in order this summer as Celtic agree a deal with Benjamin Nygren and appear to be on the brink of signing Callum Osmand.

The next couple of weeks will be crucial, especially as Celtic embark on their pre-season tour at the beginning of July.
