Brendan Rodgers could face Nicolas Kuhn in the Como Cup if Celtic beat Ajax tonight.

Como beat Al-Ahli in last night’s pre-season tournament opener and Kuhn made his debut for the Serie A side.

Rodgers will face a talented Ajax side but will be confident of a positive result after Celtic beat Sporting CP and Newcastle in his last two pre-season friendly fixtures.

And as the Celtic manager took in the usual pre-match press conference, Rodgers’ true feelings about Nicolas Kuhn were revealed now that the German winger is at Como.

Como told Nicolas Kuhn is ‘a real exciting talent’

Rodgers was asked by the assembled Italian media about his thoughts on Kuhn and how he thinks he will do at Como next season.

Rodgers told Celtic TV, “Nicolas will be a real exciting talent. When we watched him playing in Rapid Vienna, straight away his speed, his ability with the ball and his ability to score goals really stood out.

“When we took him to Celtic, all of those qualities shone through.

“He was also playing in a very, very good team at Celtic, because for a player to shine, you also want to be in a good team.”

Brendan Rodgers tells Italian media Kuhn did ‘a fantastic job for Celtic’

The German winger had a very successful spell at Celtic and despite his form dropping off towards the end of his time at Parkhead, Rodgers was still very complimentary of Kuhn.

Rodgers continued, “Callum and his team-mates really helped him improve as a player, and when you play for such a big club like Celtic, you become a winner.

“He left after 18 months, did a fantastic job for Celtic; he’s a good guy, has lots of qualities, and I hope he does really, really well here.”

Kuhn impressed on his Como debut last night as the former Celtic man settles into his new club.

Rodgers will be hoping to face his former star and to win the Como Cup to cap off what has been an impressive finale to Celtic’s pre-season preparations.
