Today has been a day for bad news on the injury front for Celtic. With Mikey Johnston and Alistair Johnston both confirmed as mid to long-term injuries today by Brendan Rodgers, the Celtic support must be massaging their temples with worry at the recent updates from the club.

But there is good news on the horizon. The Celtic manager has delivered an update on Cameron-Carter Vickers that will delight the Celtic support.

The US defender has been out of action after having surgery on his knee towards the end of last season. 67 Hail Hail has discussed previously that the American is set to return ahead of schedule and that has just been confirmed by Brendan Rodgers this afternoon.

Rodgers said [Celtic YouTube], “Cameron’s doing very, very well. He’s out on the pitch. Obviously, the surgery that he had after the [Scottish Cup] semi-final, he’s doing really, really well.

“So he looks strong, he’s progressing and is well on schedule to be back. So that’s good news.”

There is no doubt that Celtic missed the big defender towards the end of last season. Defeats against Rangers and Hibs highlighted shortcomings at the heart of the Celtic defence and having Carter-Vickers back training at this stage of preseason is excellent news.

Carter-Vickers has been a huge contributor to Celtic’s success under former manager Ange Postecoglou. His partnership with Carl Starfelt in the centre of defence has helped the club sweep up five out of six trophies in the last two years.

Rodgers will be delighted to have him back in time for the new season. More so now with the news that Alistair Johnston is going to miss the start of the new season and, possibly, the first Glasgow Derby at Ibrox.

Let’s hope there is no more bad news for the rest of the summer and that the squad will come away from the Portugal camp and the Japan Tour with no more injuries.
