Brendan Rodgers urges Celtic to seize Hampden opportunity as personal milestones brushed off

Brendan Rodgers is on the lookout for his tenth trophy as Celtic manager and has the chance to deliver that feat against Rangers in the Premier Sports Cup final tomorrow.

The Irishman claimed every domestic trophy he entered during his first spell at Parkhead. Meanwhile, his return has so far yielded a Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup double.

Regardless, Brendan Rodgers is usually stoic in his pre-match preparations. There is no getting above board; he and his group conduct themselves professionally and always put forward that Celtic have a point to prove.

Looking ahead to tomorrow’s action, the 51-year-old isn’t entertaining any notion surrounding Celtic’s potential to move ahead of Rangers on major honours should they claim the prize at stake.

Now, Rodgers has moved to shed some light on why his hunger for trophies has never wavered north of the border.

Brendan Rodgers on hunger for more silverware at Celtic

Speaking ahead of the Premier Sports Cup final, Rodgers brushed off any talk of claiming his tenth trophy as Celtic manager and admitted that he will only look back on his personal achievements once his coaching career comes to an end.

He stated: “I’ll look back on that once I’m finished and once I’m done, I think that people say that going into these games and the wins at Hampden and everything else, it doesn’t really count for much, really, in my own feeling. Just because you’ve won, it doesn’t mean you can’t turn up and not prepare.

“For me, the success that we’ve had there has all been about the preparation for the game, the detail in the game, being super focused and on what it is the players need to do within that.

“That’s also preparing that it’s a final, so you don’t expect everything to go your way, and that’s always been the case in all the finals.

“There’s always something that can go against you, so it’s preparing and expecting that. In the main, it’s always about our feelings going into these games, it’s never so much about who we play, it’s about how we play, and that’s always been a real focus.

“So going in and playing how we want to, and that’s always put us in a really good place.”

Celtic have adopted the correct mantra ahead of cup final

Although it may seem a little mundane, Celtic’s collective approach is purely about ensuring everyone is on the same page heading into tomorrow’s final.

The Bhoys may hold a significant gap over their rivals in the Scottish Premiership. However, cup football produces a different kind of jeopardy, especially when there is a trophy on the line.

Hopefully, calmness can help to breed the ideal foundation for success tomorrow. The stage is set for Celtic, all they need to do now is deliver!
