Celtic interim chairman Brian Wilson has issued a message to supporters amid plans for a boycott.

The Celtic Fans Collective have announced plans for fans to stay away from the team’s upcoming Scottish Cup tie against Dundee on Saturday.

This is in response to a range of issues, and has three stated objectives: the first being the removal of CEO Michael Nicholson from his position…

The second being a return of the Green Brigade to matches, and the third for fan media outlets to be allowed back at club press conferences.

In his address to supporters, Wilson addressed none of these three points directly.

Wilson has replaced Peter Lawwell on an interim basis, following the latter calling an end to his long affiliation with the club.

He assumed his role just weeks before the sackings of Wilfried Nancy and Paul Tisdale.

Communication is, of course, better than nothing, but his interview with Celtic TV’s Gerry McCulloch is unlikely to reassure many disgruntled fans.

He said: “When I did (my last) interview, I spoke about unity, and I spoke very specifically about unity within the stadium.

“Now, I don’t expect that suddenly all the issues go away. What I did ask for is what I think the great majority of Celtic supporters would like to see: unity behind the team.

“So, let’s sort out these other issues – and I’m in no way dismissing them or marginalising them. On the contrary, we want to engage with them.

“But the short-term imperative is to support the team, and it’s up to each and every individual to make a judgement on whether or not a boycott – being outside the stadium or inside the stadium – helps that.

“But that’s for people to judge. What I can say is that I accept that there hasn’t been as much as I would’ve liked in the past month, for a range of reasons.

“But most recently, mainly, because of the focus of the transfer window.

“What we can also say is that we have reached out. We’ve reached out to every supporters’ group, and I hope these meetings will take place within the next week or so.

“And then let’s see whether we can go forward. There’s no reluctance on my part to engage, and I hope that can be put into practice very soon.”
