Brilliant Oh Hyeon-gyu Rangers answer tells Celtic fans everything after ex-Hoops man’s Ibrox winner

Oh Hyeon-gyu may not be remembered as the best Celtic striker of his era.

The South Korean was initially brought to the club by Ange Postecoglou, and continued to see regular action under Brendan Rodgers.

Facing intense competition for the position from Kyogo Furuhashi, Oh was unable to nail down a starting spot – things got even harder after the signing of Adam Idah.

The striker left Celtic for Genk last summer, where despite being mainly used as a sub, his performances attracted a £24 million bid from Stuttgart.

That move may have fallen through, but the opportunity to haunt Rangers at Ibrox on Thursday night was not one that Oh was ready to miss.

Oh-Hyeon-gyu’s smirking Rangers answer

Despite scoring the eventual winner in a 1-0 win in Glasgow, it really should’ve been a hat-trick for the 24-year-old.

Oh missed a gilt-edged open goal as well as a penalty in a frustrating first half.

He put that right after the break, sealing the three points with a devastating left-footed finish, and his celebration left no doubt that he’s still very much on the green side of Glasgow.

And speaking to the media after the match, Oh was asked his thoughts on Rangers – and couldn’t resist a smirk.

He said: “Rangers? I don’t know, they’re just working hard every day. They’ll just keep going… [laughs.]

“It was one of my dreams to score in Ibrox, so I did and I’m happy. I just believe in myself, this is my job. I did it.

“I should’ve scored three or four goals, but I even score one and we win.”

The result leaves Russell Martin’s side with just one win in their last seven matches – they sit nine points behind the Celts in the table after five matches.

When will Celtic’s Glasgow Derby semi-final against Rangers be played?

The Hoops will face Martin’s side in the semi-final of the Premier Sports Cup, advancing to Hampden after a 4-0 quarter-final win over Partick Thistle.

The match will kick off at 2PM on Sunday November 2nd. It will be shown live on Premier Sports and won’t be available on free-to-view TV.

The Ibrox side may be in a crisis, but Celtic are yet to beat Rangers in 2025, failing in four attempts.

Rodgers’ men will need to put that right if they are to be involved in the final of the competition against St Mirren or Motherwell in December.
