Celtic have announced some of the finer details for the first-team’s week-long visit to Japan.
The Hoops touched down in Tokyo on Monday, with a familiar green-and-white sight greeting them at Narita International Airport.
Yokohama, the base for our first few days, is around an hours drive from the airport.
As Celtic say in an enlightening schedule article, the team will train at Yokohama F. Marinos‘ Nissan Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The match against the reigning J1 League champions will then take place at the same venue a day later.
Following that, the team will take the famous Japanese bullet train from Yokohama to Osaka. It’s a fair old journey, around 500km.
Osaka will then be the team’s home for a few days. They’ll train at the Panasonic Stadium on Friday, before taking on Gamba Osaka at the ground 24 hours later.
After that match they will return to Yokohama where they will spend the night before travelling back to Scotland.
It’s a relatively packed schedule given that the team are only in Japan for a seven days. But it should be a great experience for everyone, including our supporters.
It’s great that we’re being given the opportunity to both train and play at some big stadiums during the visit. The Nissan Stadium golds 70,000 and hosted the 2002 World Cup final, so training and playing there is sure to be a great experience.
Things are definitely going to be picked up over the next week. Expect strong line-ups and a first proper look at the new Brendan Rodgers era.
