Callum McGregor shares how Celtic are really feeling about Aberdeen keeping on their coattails

Celtic have maintained their unbeaten Scottish Premiership start as Callum McGregor leads the fight for the title once more.

Now on international duty, the Bhoys rounded off their latest block of matches with victory at Kilmarnock courtesy of a goal from the captain and star man Nicolas Kuhn.

Stepping up when needed, Callum McGregor’s opener in Ayrshire admittedly carried a stroke of luck, as his ball into the box went all the way after Adam Idah obscured the eyeline of Robby McCrorie.

Aberdeen also continued their excellent start to the campaign with another victory, leaving Celtic top of the Scottish Premiership by a goal differential of 14.

The Bhoys are in fine form as they take some time to recuperate during the break. Regardless, they will be aware there is no room for any lapses in concentration at this stage.

Callum McGregor on Aberdeen emerging as a threat

Speaking to The Daily Record, McGregor indicated that Celtic have gone over the course many times in the Scottish top-flight and whether it’s Aberdeen, Rangers or someone else pushing his side all they way, they continue looking to improve as the campaign takes shape.

He stated: “Yeah, well I think we’re always there, whether it’s Aberdeen, Rangers, we’re always tight at this point in the season.

“We know what we’re doing, we’ve been over the course many, many times, we know it’s about us, and how we prepare, and how we train, and then when the game comes around, it’s an opportunity to show what we’ve been doing all week.

That just all builds and culminates come the end of the season. So, we feel good where we are, there are teams challenging, and that’s great, it just keeps us ultra sharp and focused.”

Later, he added: “I think the results will tell you where we are ultimately. It’s been a really positive start, obviously drawing one game, probably should have won that as well to be honest, but a strong start.

“But we’re only one third of the way there, so there’s two thirds to go, and a lot of work to be done, so we’re happy with where we are at the minute, but we know that we can always get better. There’s a long, long way to go, a lot of football to be played, so we’ve been over the course before, we know what’s required.”

Callum McGregor set for a valuable rest

While others jet off to represent their countries, McGregor’s Scotland retirement means the Lennoxtown product will have a couple of weeks to gain some well-deserved rest ahead of a heavy fixture schedule.

Celtic are unlikely to enjoy too many extended period of time off between the other side of the break until next March, which is where the next international window will take place.

Hopefully, the Bhoys can continue their excellent start to the campaign when they return to action against Heart of Midlothian next Saturday, with McGregor playing a leading role.
