Callum McGregor has had no thoughts about plans for when he stops playing for Celtic.
The Hoops skipper is still just 29, so talk about his post-career days may be a little premature.
But that’s what he was asked on a Celtic TV interview shared by the club today, and he gave a class response.
McGregor was asked whether his thoughts had started to drift to his non-playing days given that he will turn 30 in June.
“No, no, [I’m] just trying to forget about it to be honest,” he said.
“I feel good, physically, mentally. They say that when you get to your late 20s/early 30s that it’s the prime of your career.
“I want to go for as long as I can. As long as I’m helping the team and I still feel good.
“I’ve been doing it for a long time but it does go by so quickly. It feels like yesterday when I made my debut.
“One day, somebody is going to come and tap me on the shoulder and say ‘that’s you finished’ and I’m going to miss it.
“So I want to give absolutely everything I’ve got in the tank between now and then.”
Hands up, who feels a little old after reading that? Most of us will remember McGregor’s debut against KR Reykjavík like it was yesterday. The reality is that it was the best part of nine years ago.
Thankfully, McGregor has several more years to go as Celtic captain, with more domestic trophies to be won and progress to be made in Europe.
Chat about his post-career days is a little before time, but we are going to hear more of this as the years go by.
For now, McGregor is arguably playing the best he ever has for Celtic.
He’ll be a crucial part of Saturday too as he and the team aim to take a major step towards yet another trophy.
