Celtic supporters are celebrating the news that Callum McGregor has committed his future to the club for five years.
The 28-year-old’s latest deal potentially keeps him at Celtic Park until 2026, a two-year extension on his last contract signing.
The Celtic captain’s best years will now be spent in Glasgow. I don’t think that should be underrated.
McGregor has watched players come and go at Celtic over the years. From academy talents such as Kieran Tierney to foreign players such as Moussa Dembele and Virgil van Dijk, big players have used the Bhoys as a stepping stone to play in a more illustrious league.
For me, McGregor has talent like that. I don’t think he’d look out of place in the English Premier League, especially when you look at the performances of Scotland teammates like Stuart Armstrong and John McGinn.
Yet, McGregor’s different from his peers. His only ambition is to be a Celtic legend. He’s well on the way to doing that already.
Callum McGregor chats to 67 Hail Hail after signing bumper new Celtic deal
Having already been part of incredible success and performed at a high level, you could argue he already is one. However, longevity and further success will ensure it.
McGregor could well end up being one of the rare “one-club men” we’ve seen a Celtic in recent decades, save for a loan spell at Notts County in his younger years. And today’s announcement could be a crucial step towards that.
So congratulations to McGregor. And well done to Celtic for absolutely delighting supporters today with the surprise announcement.

Fantastic player who has looked like he is slowly getting back to his best after a disappointing 18 months like the rest of the team! Glad he has been tied down but after he was made captain I fully expected him to finish his career with us! 🍀 https://t.co/wJhPX1xmKd
