Cameron Carter-Vickers has been Celtic’s standout defender since he arrived on loan in 2021.
The American has excelled at centre-half under Ange Postecoglou as well as Brendan Rodgers and helped the club lift seven trophies during his time at Celtic Park.
So it is no surprise to hear the big man receiving praise for his performance in the Celtic’s 5-1 mauling of Aberdeen on Tuesday evening.
Carter-Vickers was comfortable and convincing at the back alongside Auston Trusty and was unfortunate to concede a goal late on, scored by Shayden Morris, as the game clock ticked on.
Fortunately for the Premiership leaders they had already notched four goals of their own in front of 58,000 punters in Glasgow before Daizen Maeda made it five in stoppage time.

Stephen McGinn says Celtic’s Carter-Vickers is best in the country
There was one moment in particular that had BBC Sportsound co-commentator Stephen McGinn applauding the 27-year-old and that was when he recovered from Dons star Topi Keskinen running in behind during the action.
The Finn used his pace to find himself goal side of CCV before his marker managed to get back and usher him onto his weaker foot as the danger was averted.
It was a typical piece of defending from the former Tottenham Hotspur academy player and had McGinn letting fans know just how difficult a skill it was for the international defender to pull off.
“I can’t tell you how good that defending is from Cameron Carter-Vickers,” the former St Mirren and Falkirk midfielder told Sportscene during his comms role.
“Honestly. The recovery, the composure involved in defending like that from Cameron Carter-Vickers. It’s why he’s the best defender in the country at the minute.”
Cameron Carter-Vickers’ Celtic stats by partner
It was high praise from McGinn but it must be said that it is difficult to argue with the point.
Carter-Vickers has been consistently solid for Celtic in his role and when he has been missing through injury, the squad and the starting XI, certainly, is weaker for it.
| Partner | Matches played | Wins | Clean sheets |
| Carl Starfelt | 64 | 53 | 32 |
| Liam Scales | 55 | 42 | 25 |
| Nir Bitton | 30 | 24 | 14 |
| Auston Trusty | 22 | 15 | 10 |
| Stephen Welsh | 16 | 12 | 6 |
| Moritz Jenz | 14 | 10 | 5 |
| Maik Nawrocki | 4 | 3 | 1 |
| Yuki Kobayashi | 1 | 1 | 1 |
| Nat Phillips | 1 | 0 | 0 |
Alongside former teammate Carl Starfelt, Carter-Vickers was a colossus. So much so that Starfelt and Carter-Vickers never lost a Celtic game as a pair at the back.
He has started well with current partner Trusty but they have a way to go before they will reach the same level.
Still, with CCV on the pitch, Celtic will always be confident of victory and it’s easy to see why.
