Celtic’s win over Hearts keeps Brendan Rodgers’ unbeaten start to the Scottish Premiership going this weekend.

Goals from Arne Engels and Luke McCowan kept Celtic’s five-point gap at the top of the table intact after Rangers’ win over Dundee United at Tannadice reduced what was an eight-point gap before the Ibrox club’s lunchtime kick-off.

But it was what Brendan Rodgers told the players prior to the Hearts win that Cameron Carter-Vickers said inspired them to another clean sheet and three points in the defence of the Scottish Premiership title.

Rodgers encouraged record-equalling Celtic performance

The 2-0 win meant more than just three points on the way to defending the title. The ensuing clean sheet means that Celtic equalled a clean sheet record that has stood for 118 years after denying five different opponents a goal for the fifth game in a row.

And Carter-Vickers said that Rodgers touched on that before he sent his side out to face the Edinburgh side.

Carter-Vickers told Celtic TV, “Yeah there definitely is. The manager mentioned that before the game before we went out today. So definitely was in the back of everyone’s minds.

“Obviously first and foremost is to win the game but it’s definitely nice to keep a clean sheet.”

Celtic now excited for the Champions League

Whilst Celtic’s domestic form has been imperious, much stiffer tests await Rodgers’ team starting on Wednesday night against Slovan Bratislava and it’s one that Carter-Vickers says excites his teammates.

Carter-Vickers continued, “It’s exciting you know all the boys are looking forward to it so now after this game it is about recovering and preparing for that one.”

The Slovakian side faces the possibility of coming to Glasgow without their manager for the first fixture of the tournament but regardless, the Celtic fans will fancy their chances of getting a positive result.

With a tough tie against Borussia Dortmund away after Bratislava, Celtic will need to take advantage of all their home games if they have ambitions of making out of the league phase this season.
