Carl Starfelt didn’t appear to take part in Celtic training this morning but did make the club flight to Austria for the upcoming pre-season camp.
There was serious concern about Starfelt earlier in the summer when he was stretchered off with an apparent hamstring problem on international duty with Sweden.
Hopeful updates followed, including the player doing a pit of personal private training work on holiday, but it’s still been unclear exactly what his status is.
Celtic posted footage and SNS uploaded photos of training prior to the club flight, but Starfelt could not be seen in any of that. Presumably, he was being checked out by club doctors rather than taking part in the session.
The good news is he was seen getting on the flight carrying the squad and club media over to Austria and Czechia for the next ten days.
Celtic play SC Wiener Viktoria, Rapid Vienna and Banik Ostrava on the first stage of their pre-season journey before returning to Glasgow.
Ange Postecoglou does have options for this stage of the summer with Cameron Carter-Vickers, Stephen Welsh, Christopher Jullien and Bosun Lawal also travelling to Europe.
It’s unlikely Starfelt will be risked in the immediate friendlies, although hopefully, he is able to join in group training as the week progresses.
Celtic are thought to be in the market for another defender this summer, with Jullien a likely exit having already travelled to Germany for signing talks last week.
