Mikey Johnston’s Celtic career has had many ups and downs over the years.
Despite making his debut for Celtic on the 6th of 2017, the winger has failed to nail down a starting first-team place in all that time.
The 24-year-old was loaned out to West Brom in the January transfer window and has made three appearances for the Championship side.
And last night, against Cardiff City, Johnston scored his first goal for West Brom within 30 seconds of kick-off and The Baggies manager, Carlos Corberan, was full of praise for the on-loan Celtic man.
Corberan said [West Brom FC], “Mikey is a player that offers us a lot of possibilities.
“He is a winger who can play wider than he played today, but at the same time, he can play more as a playmaker.
“One of the key things we insist to him is that he arrives in the box because he’s a player with a very good finish.
“That was the action of the goal, but in general he was helping the team a lot be patient, to switch the side of attack, because he’s someone with a lot of game understanding and quality.”
Mikey Johnston’s future at Celtic
There are two sides to how Mikey Johnston‘s future at Celtic can go. There is the side that believes he must have something about him or he wouldn’t have survived at the club under four different managers.

The other school of thought is that if he was good enough, he would be starting for Celtic week in, week out.
Over his time at Celtic, Johnston has made just 92 appearances scoring 13 goals and creating 12 assists picking up five league titles, three Scottish Cups and three League Cups. [Transfermarkt]
To put that into context, Daizen Maeda has made 95 appearances for Celtic over the last two years and the Japanese winger has scored 23 and created 15.
For me, it looks like his career at Celtic is over. He is clearly a talented player but unfortunately, it looks like he may well just fall short of the required quality to make it at Parkhead.
