Celtic have announced a new commercial partnership with global telecommunications company Squalk.
A “Celtic Talk” app has been released for supporters as part of the agreement, now available on Apple and Android.
The service seems to be a competitor to WhatsApp – a way to communicate with friends and family globally at a low cost. Extra functionality includes being able to keep up with the latest Celtic news released officially by the club.

Gordon Kaye, Celtic’s Head of Business Development told the official club website: “We are excited by this unique partnership with Squalk as we bring Celtic Fans across the world the opportunity to utilise a free communications platform that facilitates messaging, chat, video calls and allows fans to receive the most up-to-date Club news via the Celtic Talk Broadcast feature.
“Squalk have created the first football club app to incorporate a range of telecom features beyond those typically associated with the likes of WhatsApp and Telegram, including the ability to rent local and international mobile numbers.
“Squalk’s experience of working with global social media platforms such as Triller ensure the Celtic Talk App will remain at the cutting edge of telecoms technology with plans to offer a low-cost data solution in the near future.”
Having downloaded and perused the offerings of the app, I personally don’t have much use for it to be honest. But it might be useful for supporters in other countries to have an official Celtic service.
It’s unclear how much Celtic will benefit from the project in terms of income.
The Celtic brand is often used to sell things to the support, but this offering is at least better than the usual betting and alcohol sponsorships.
