Celtic appear set to come out the traps and boss Rangers from kick-off as Ange Postecoglou looks for their authority to be stamped down early on.

The Bhoys are 3 points away from all but wrapping up the Scottish Premiership title this afternoon. Beating Rangers would signify a major shift in power in Glasgow after only one season.

Celtic’s players will be hoping for a similar outcome to February’s last Parkhead meeting between the sides, in which the Hoops racked up a 3-0 win with all goals coming in a first-half blitz.

But whilst something along those lines could be tricky this afternoon, Ange has stated that he wants to dominate Rangers as early as possible and get them on the back foot.

As quoted by the Herald, the Celtic boss said: “On Thursday they had a very different objective [Rangers away to Leipzig]. On Sunday they have to beat us. So I guess from our perspective we just have to prepare ourselves to play the football we can and make sure we get as dominant as we can early in the game which is something we have done all year at Celtic Park.

“We want to put them on the back foot and capitalise on those moments where we have the advantage. We understand that the games are running out and that every game we win between now and the end of the season gets us closer to our goal.

“Our job is to make sure we play as well as we possibly can and if we do that then it gives us a good chance of success.”

Celtic ready to come at Rangers from the start

There’ll be no let-up for Rangers after their Europa League encounter on Thursday night. With a bit of luck, they’ve been drained by their late defeat to Leipzig. This particular fixture is the last thing they’ll want to be experiencing today.

Celtic were far too messy with the ball at Hampden in our Scottish Cup semi-final against the Ibrox side. Our ball-retention on the day wasn’t good enough, and that’s the main area of improvement we’ll have to make this afternoon.

But there’s always something different about Celtic Park. Always something a bit special when it comes to what the atmosphere does for the players involved. We expect Celtic to play like men possessed this afternoon, because that’s the only real way they’re going to overcome Rangers in the manner we would like.

If we come out and struggle to get our flair players on the ball whilst making loose passes, our foes instantly get some confidence from that. Celtic need to be quick, sharp, and always willing to get on the ball. We can’t have tackle-shirkers and we need our experienced players to lead from the front today.

But the game-plan looks a simple one. Get a high press on that Rangers backline early and force them into mistakes. Being in the Parkhead couldron could easily lead to them imploding just like they did back in February. We need to force them into mistakes just to see how they’ll act alone.

Hopefully, that’s exactly what happens as we look for the fast start we didn’t get at Hampden.
