Celtic fans have spotted a Hoops banner in the PSG end at Anfield.

The French giants took a huge step towards defending their European crown by eliminating the English champions with a 4-0 aggregate win.

They are known as some of the best away fans in the competition. The Collectif Ultras Paris have been known to acknowledge their mutual respect with the Green Brigade and Bhoys at Celtic.

And this was clear to see before the game on Wednesday.

The first acknowledgement between the two supporters came in 1995, when Hoops fans applauded the PSG side which won 3-0 at Celtic Park.

PSG’s Nautecia displayed a Celtic badge and Bhoys logo in honour of the group’s tenth anniversary in a game against Marseille in 2022. In a Champions League game against Aston Villa last year, French fans were present in the Celtic Park.

The sides also met in 2017, but Celtic fans won’t want too much reminding of the 5-0 and 7-1 hammerings handed to Brendan Rodgers’ side by a star-studded French side.

That year, Odsonne Edouard joined the Celts on loan from the Paris side, and the following season, Timothy Weah made the same move. The players had different fortunes.

Despite routinely making big-money signings and reaching late stages of the competition, a Champions League trophy evaded the Parc des Princes club until last season.

In winning the trophy with a sensational 5-0 win over Inter Milan, PSG joined Celtic on the list of nine clubs in Europe to complete the traditional continental treble.

But they are now a step closer to back-to-back European crowns, having booked a spot in the semi-finals where they will face Bayern Munich or Real Madrid.

The Champions League triumph was the culmination of an investment project which started 14 years earlier, when Qatari Sports Investments bought the Parisian club over.
