Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou lauds crucial behind-the-scenes group

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has heavily praised his backroom staff at Lennoxtown for helping shape and develop his ongoing project at the club.

Postecoglou has picked up three Manager Of The Month awards in the Scottish Premiership already this season and nobody would put it past him to land more.

However, for the Celtic boss, the award is for his staff as much as him. This is why he insists they take part in the photo opportunities with the sponsors, whether it’s high-profile coaches like John Kennedy or first-team data analysts.

Asked about it yesterday, Postecoglou told The Scottish Sun [05/03 print edition, page 73]: “It’s important that everyone gets recognition. I am the frontman but these guys are working their backsides off on a daily basis to give me and the players the information we need to make decisions.

“They are crucial and when you get a manager of the month award I totally understand that’s not recognition of me and my work.

“That’s recognition of the whole staff’s work as for all intents and purposes, they spend more time with the players than I do.

“Credit to every one of them and I think it was only right they received the award beside me.”

We know Ange is full of class, but he continues to demonstrate it on a near daily-basis.

Without meaning to patronise anyone, it will have been a buzz for those beside Postecoglou in the photo yesterday – for themselves and also their friends and families. It’s great to be acknowledged for your hard work.

Managers often choose to shout out their colleagues when winning awards like this, but Postecoglou seems to go the extra mile.

It generally leads to more respect from supporters for the staff behind-the-scenes, which can be crucial when building a long-term project.

That’s especially true when Postecoglou admits himself he spends less time with the players than his staff do.

Let’s hope they can all deliver the three points at Livingston!
