Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou was asked for his thoughts on the pressure surrounding managers in the modern game yesterday, following the sacking of Jim Goodwin at Aberdeen.
Following a horror week of results against Darvel and Hibernian, Goodwin left his post at Pittodrie less than a year after being appointed, as did previous boss Stephen Glass.
They aren’t the only club in Scottish football to have quick turnarounds with managers either – Jack Ross was sacked by Dundee United earlier in the season after just seven games in charge while speculation has surrounded Lee Johnson at Easter Road.

Postecoglou reckons managerial work is becoming more demanding than ever and has advice for clubs moving forward.
Speaking to BBC Radio Scotland at Tannadice yesterday, he said: “It’s always been a very demanding role, forever and a day, we all know that. I think it’s becoming even more demanding with the scrutiny.
“I just think clubs need to become smarter before they make appointments. Put some real thought into why they’re appointing the guy. It’s such a big decision for every football club.
“You can get one or two transfers wrong, in terms of players. If you get your manager wrong, that can spiral you into many years of uncertainty. That’s where the key lies.
“Good clubs now realise that it’s about getting the right person in the first place. If you get the right person, whatever bumps there are along the way you’ll ride it out because you know the reason you brought them in.”
Thankfully there was no such drama after Postecoglou’s appointment at Celtic. Following a sticky patch of results initially, the Australian’s processes eventually won through and started producing.
The Bhoys manager is well aware of how quickly things can turn in football too, which is why he is always offering a quip about not being certain in his position.
He’s a man who can handle the pressure and with Celtic’s full backing can take the club to great heights.
