Celtic chairman Peter Lawwell is in Istanbul for the UEFA Champions League final as the search for a new Bhoys manager continues.
Lawwell was spotted on Sky Sports News with Paris Saint-Germain owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi ahead of the big kick-off, with both men heavily involved at the European Club Association.
The 64-year-old Celtic man is also a member of UEFA’s Professional Football Strategy Council. The body has held meetings before Manchester City and Inter Milan attempt to become champions of Europe.
Lawwell has long been a diplomat for Celtic on the European scene, becoming so influential as to help guide the future of UEFA competitions alongside other high-ranking people within football. It was a key sell of his return as club chairman following a long stint as the club’s chief executive.
Despite speculation, it’s unlikely Lawwell is in Istanbul to court Enzo Maresca, the City coach who has been heavily linked with a move to Glasgow this summer.
Celtic are on the search for a new manager after the departure of Ange Postecoglou and Maresca is one of the many names reported to be in the frame.

Maresca was interviewed for the position in 2021, with the club obviously opting for Postecoglou. With more experience under his belt and now working alongside Pep Guardiola with City’s first team, the Italian is tipped to branch off out on his own again after a failed spell at Parma.
It remains to be seen which direction Celtic go on with the manager search. As many as ten names have now been linked with the position. There’s a wide range of experience levels and winning records.
The latest reports today suggest that Daniel Farke is in the mix. Celtic are said to have held an initial round of talks with the German. He’s unlikely to be the only man that the Bhoys have reached out to over the last week.
