Celtic have this morning confirmed that away fans will be at the next two Glasgow derby matches this season.

Celtic and Rangers fans have been locked out of recent fixtures between the two clubs in a decision that has left the atmosphere on derby day lacking.

It came after safety and security concerns from both sides with the decision being made to keep all visiting punters out of the respective stadiums to avoid any issues.

Now, though, Celtic have revealed that an agreement has been struck that will see four percent of saleable capacity will be given to both clubs at their opponents’ ground.

Celtic and Rangers fans will be in attendance at next two derby matches

And that is a major breakthrough following controversy surrounding the issue.

The club’s statement read: “We can confirm that following the previous SPFL determination from last year and with necessary requirements being addressed, away supporters will be present at the next two Glasgow derby matches this season at Celtic Park (March 16) and Ibrox.

“Allocations will be around 4% of saleable capacity at both stadia.

“Further ticket information will be provided in due course.”

Rangers also released a statement of their own encouraging their support to take up the tickets at Celtic Park when they become available.

“Rangers supporters will be able to attend our match with Celtic on March 16, with the two clubs agreeing for a reciprocal percentage of tickets to be allocated to away fans,” it began.

“Approximately four per-cent of saleable capacity at both stadia will be given to the visiting club, with everyone at Rangers looking forward to having the backing of our supporters in the East End of Glasgow in just over a fortnight’s time.

“The arrangement will then be repeated for the Old Firm derby at Ibrox following the split.”

How many tickets will Celtic fans get for Rangers clash at Ibrox?

It means around 2400 Rangers supporters will be in attendance at Parkhead for the first derby back after the decision was made.

Due to Ibrox’s capacity being a lower number, that means Celtic will take roughly 2000 fans across the city when the fixture rolls around.

It is sadly the nature of things given the smaller size of Ibrox compared to Celtic Park.

And it is a far cry from the 7000 tickets previously given to both clubs.

Celtic winning too many matches on Rangers’ patch – and the subsequent celebrations – forced Gers’ hand and has damaged the fixture since.
