Celtic take on Hibs in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals next month.

Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic side saw off Raith Rovers 5-0 in the last round to book their ticket to the last eight and they will play the fixture in front of a packed Celtic Park crowd on March 9.

Following discussions with the visiting club over the past few weeks since the draw was made, Celtic urged the Easter Road outfit to take into consideration the Scottish FA’s handbook where away fan ticket allocations are concerned.

That was after Hibs urged the Hoops to part with more briefs for their fanbase to take in the action first-hand in Glasgow.

An initial number of 2667 tickets were handed out to Hibs to sell to their fans but they pleaded for more to accommodate demand. And now the fourth placed Scottish Premiership club have confirmed that Celtic have agreed to increase their numbers.

Celtic have handed Hibs 7000 Scottish Cup quarter-final tickets

That means up to 7000 Hibs fans will now be in attendance at the game on the Sunday afternoon after an agreement was struck.

Hibs revealed how they have acknowledged the SFA’s laws and will be “responsible for payment to the home club for all tickets delivered to the away club for sale to supporters of the away club.”

That means, in essence, that Celtic will receive the payment in full from Hibs for the 7000 briefs regardless of whether or not they can sell out their allocation.

It is a classy gesture from Celtic albeit they will be compensated no matter what.

Rodgers will certainly be demanding a better result than the one his side got the last time they faced off against Hibs.

A Josh Campbell double cancelled out Daizen Maeda’s goal as Hibs beat Celtic 2-1 just last weekend.

Hibs released their statement on Celtic tickets

Hibs confirmed the news this evening on their website via their social media channels. A statement read: “We are delighted to give supporters a positive update regarding our away ticket allocation at Celtic Park for our Scottish Cup Quarter-Final fixture.

“As supporters are aware, we received an initial allocation of 2,667 tickets, a number that we sold out within five days of going on sale.

“During the sales period, we remained in continued dialogue with Celtic requesting more tickets, and today (Thursday 27 February) had a breakthrough.

“We can confirm that we will now receive an away allocation of up to 7,000 tickets for the match at Celtic Park.

“After long discussions, and being referred to the SFA Handbook, which states ‘the away club will be responsible for payment to the home club for all tickets delivered to the away club for sale to supporters of the away club.’

“We continued to push for the larger allocation, knowing the financial risk to Hibernian FC, and accepted circa 7,000 away tickets understanding the demand from our supporters.

“It goes without saying that our supporters have played a vital part in our fantastic run of form, and we want to see as many Hibees as possible supporting the team at Celtic Park!

“We will confirm the sale date/time in due course – this is dependant on when we receive the tickets from Celtic. As soon as we we receive these tickets, they will be available to purchase on General Sale.

“Please note that the ticket information (i.e. pricing, requirements etc) will remain the same as previously advertised and that supporters who have already purchased tickets will not be able to move their seats once new ones become available. We also cannot refund any tickets that have already been purchased.

“Once again, thanks for your magnificent support and we’re delighted to have increased our allocation for this vital match.”
