Celtic may be able to persuade former player Efrain Juarez to become the new manager thanks to a special release clause in his contract.
Juarez has been linked with the Celtic job, with multiple reports suggesting that the Hoops have been in contact with the Mexican.
Martin O’Neill will take charge of the game against Kilmarnock this weekend, meaning the earliest an appointment could be made is during the international break.
The release clause in Efrain Juarez’s contract that Celtic could activate
The 37-year-old is currently managing UNAM Pumas in his homeland after winning a league and cup double with Atletico Nacional in Colombia.
However, since the rumours linking him to the vacant role at Parkhead emerged, new details of a clause in his contract have also become apparent.
According to Mexican outlet Excélsior, Juarez has a clause that allows any European club to make an approach for him without having to pay any form of compensation.
Given that Brendan Rodgers will receive a payout from Celtic, news of being able to make an approach without any added costs on top of the usual negotiations will be music to the ears of the Hoops hierarchy.

Efrain Juarez’s managerial record
While the 37-year-old never really hit the heights during his two-year spell at Celtic between 2010 and 2012, his time in the dugout has been far more impressive.
Before stepping into the top role, Juarez was an assistant manager to former Hoops boss Ronny Deila at New York City, Standard Liege and Club Brugge.
He then moved to Colombia to begin his own career with Atletico Nacional, winning a domestic double before resigning due to disagreements and joining his current side.
| Efrain Juarez managerial record | |
|---|---|
| Games in charge | 60 |
| Won | 26 |
| Drawn | 17 |
| Lost | 17 |
| Win Percentage | 43.3% |
In that time he has managed 60 games in all competitions, winning just under half of them.
Having already won silverware in his career too, as well as coped with the demands of the Celtic crowd as a player, it could be a shrewd appointment.
