On loan Celtic defender has talked up Aberdeen’s challenge to Celtic with a dig at Rangers as the Swede admits he’s been impressed with the job Jimmy Thelin is doing at Pittodrie.
Lagerbielke is currently on loan from Celtic at FC Twente but has told how he is keeping a wee eye on his old boss, Jimmy Thelin’s progress as Aberdeen maintain an SPFL challenge to Celtic.
Aberdeen are second in the Scottish Premiership table and remain, like Celtic, unbeaten in the league. And with the domestic calendar set to resume on Saturday night, Lagerbielke has told how he thinks the challenge by the Pittodrie club to Brendan Rodgers’ team is ‘really cool’.
Celtic being challenged by Aberdeen is ‘incredibly big’ as Rangers sits third
Lagerbielke was close to Thelin as the Aberdeen gaffer was the Celtic defender’s manager at Elfsborg before he made his move to Paradise.
And commenting on The Dons’ challenge to the Hoops, Lagerbielke said that Thelin being nine points ahead of Rangers is ‘really cool’.
Lagerbielke told Fotbolskanalen, “It’s incredibly big. Celtic and Rangers have won every title since the 80s. So the fact that someone else is involved, at least for a little while, is great. And then you’re nine points ahead of Rangers too, which is really cool.
“It’s great fun. We’ve had some contact during our time in Scotland and also before he moved there. So it’s great that it’s going so well. It’s fantastic to be undefeated for so long and to take up the fight with Celtic, it’s incredibly well done.”
Gustaf Lagerbielke’s season at FC Twente as he discusses Celtic future
Already this afternoon 67 Hail Hail has discussed how Lagerbielke sees his future at Celtic. The Swedish defender believes there is a ‘possibility’ Twente will make his move permanent as he enjoys his spell in the Eredivisie.

However, whether that hope becomes true or not looks a bit far off when you delve into how many appearances Lagerbielke has made so far this season for FC Twente.
In 16 fixtures, the Celtic defender has only made six appearances with five of those off the bench. Lagerbielke has made just one 90-minute appearance for the Dutch side in the 2-2 draw with Nice in the Europa League.
Clearly struggling for first-team minutes, the on-loan Celtic defender will need to play more to convince the Dutch club to take a permanent punt on him because, right now, sitting on the bench on loan is currently doing him no favours at all.
