Celtic have received some good news in the form of the South Korea squad for the Asian Games.

The Koreans announced their 22 player selection for the competition that will take place in China from September 19 to October 7.

The Asian Games are not to be confused with the Asian Cup — which takes place in early 2023. A whole host of Celtic players are expected to play in that.

The Games seem to be more of a multi-sport Olympic style competition, with the football event featuring players 24 and under. (K League United)

Celtic forward Hyeongyu Oh would have been eligible to compete, as well as reported incomings Hyun-jun Yang and Kwon Hyeok-kyu.

However, the good news is that none of the three have been included in manager Hwang Sun-hong’s squad.

As reported by K League United, the selection does include four European based players including recent Paris Saint-Germain signing Lee Kang-in.

Dinamo Dresden’s Park Kyu-hyun, VfB Stuttgart’s Jeong Woo-yeong and Gent’s Hong Hyun-seok are the others.

It’s not totally clear why Oh hasn’t been called up but it certainly seems like we have dodged a bullet given the important domestic and European challenges we will have during the period.

Japan are not competing in the competition so we don’t have to worry about Yuki Kobayashi being prised away either.

In other news, Celtic fans will have to wait to see Marco Tilio in action
