Now that Celtic’s 2024/25 campaign is starting to wind down, the focus has started to turn on next season.

One of the biggest parts of looking ahead is discovering what the new kit looks like, and the club have delivered on that already.

Fresh off the news that Adidas have signed a new extension with Celtic to manufacture the club’s kits, 2025/26’s home strip has been unveiled by the club.

Adidas’ new deal with Celtic is a record for Scottish football with how much the club will receive for the privilege of the German company manufacturing their kits.

Fans will be happy with the amount of money it’s bringing in, and the reaction to the new kit has been largely positive.

However, there’s a point many Bhoys fans are making about the new home top that suggests there could be room for improvement.

Celtic fans want black stripes removed from 2025/26 Adidas home kit

There’s one jarring detail that Celtic fans just can’t shake about the new home shirt: the black stripes.

The trademark Adidas look hasn’t resonated with supporters upon the unveiling, with many claiming the shirt is ‘ruined’ by the stripes.

The club announced the new strip as being ‘steeped in tradition’, however fans have pointed out the obvious.

One said: “Where was the black in historic strip design?”

Another added: “See if it didn’t have they stupid black Adidas lines on the shoulders, that would be an all timer.”

Others have suggested the stripes might have worked with different colours more appropriate to Celtic.

However, not all fans are completely upset about the stripes.

One rated it as a “10/10”, while another added “That is actually gorgeous.”

Some Bhoys supporters think a new approach is needed with the kit sponsor.

One fan mocked up what the kit would look like without a sponsor.

The new Adidas deal is rumoured to last longer than the initial five years when it was first inked in 2020, so let’s hope the company take the criticism from fans onboard for their future efforts.

Celtic’s competitive record in an Adidas kit

Celtic have had an Adidas kit since 2020, with the deal starting ahead of the 2020/21 season.

Prior to that, the Bhoys’ strip had been manufactured by New Balance, Nike and Umbro.

The Adidas reign got off to a pretty terrible start, with Celtic beginning 2020/21 on the hunt for a record 10th consecutive league title.

However, a miserable campaign saw them lose the league to Rangers and finish the season without winning a single trophy for the first time since 2010.

2021/22 saw the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as manager, and the club got back to winning ways. Ange won the league title and the League Cup, marking the first two trophies in an Adidas kit.

The following season, 2022/23, Celtic won the treble before Ange left the club to go to Tottenham Hotspur.

Brendan Rodgers took over and subsequently led the Bhoys to a double of the league title and Scottish Cup in 2023/24.

Rodgers is on the brink of leading the club to another treble in 2024/25, with the Scottish Cup final coming up against Aberdeen on May 24th.

In terms of a comparable length of time in their history under other kit manufacturers, the club’s spell under New Balance was more successful so far than their time wearing Adidas.

From 2015 to 2020, Celtic managed an unprecedented quadruple treble while wearing New Balance, from 2016/17 to 2019/20.

However, despite the horrific first year, Celtic’s record in an Adidas strip has been solid and fans will be hoping that continues.
