The Eddie Howe to Celtic hype is impossible to stop now. Either he has a massive change of heart or he’ll be our new manager.
That’s the word from reports this weekend anyway.
The Scottish Sun has reported and put their name to an exclusive that he has agreed “in principle” to become the new permanent Celtic boss in the wake of Neil Lennon’s departure.
They reckon he is expected to be officially announced by the club early next week.
Clearly, that’s an exciting development for supporters. You can barely be anywhere online just now and not see Celtic fans chat about what it means for the club, current stars, struggling players and young talent.
Inevitably there’s a bit of good humour with it all too.
There are growing calls from fans on social media for supporters to adopt a simple new terrace song for the former Bournemouth boss, to the tune of Italian classic Bella Ciao.
Do a search for “Bella Ciao Howe” on Twitter and a lot comes up, with some Tweets gaining hundreds of likes!
Bella Ciao (which if you’ve not heard, you can catch on YouTube) is an Italian protest folk song that became the anthem of the Italian Resistance during World War 2.
It’s a symbol of anti-fascism and kind of thing you can easily see being adapted by fan groups such as The Green Brigade or Bhoys into a Celtic context for Eddie Howe.
Perhaps not. Perhaps it will never take off. Perhaps Howe won’t even end up at Celtic Park.
However, I certainly can’t get it out of my head now!
In other news, a class new Celtic pub is on the verge of being opened and has had the thumbs up from Chris Sutton.
