Celtic have confirmed that their brand new Barrowfield training centre has opened for business.
It is one of the biggest pieces of infrastructural change the club has implemented since the 1990s and will be used by the Hoops’ women’s teams, as well as the various academy sides.
Barrowfield will feature an array of state-of-the-art pieces of equipment ranging from full-sized indoor pitches to sports science centres.
Celtic board release statement on Barrowfield training centre
Following the exciting news, Peter Lawwell addressed Celtic fans in a statement on the club website.
“We are sure that the new Barrowfield development will prove to be a really important milestone in the club’s future,” he began.
“Celtic’s history is characterised by so many young players coming through the club’s own development system, gracing the first-team and playing such an important role in our many successes throughout the years. We want to improve further in this area and through the new facility, we will be striving for even more success, with the new high-quality centre giving our academies and women’s team every opportunity to flourish.
“While we had opportunities to develop facilities elsewhere, Celtic was born and has been raised in the East End of the City. It was very important for us that we maintained this important presence in the local community, in a place dear to our hearts and a place where so many Celtic legends have been made.”
Celtic fans blast the board for delayed announcement
News of the brand-new facilities is one that would normally be a positive moment.
However, due to the ongoing tensions against the owners, fans once again referenced the lack of investment into the playing squad.
@bhoysviews said: “The timing of this ahead of the finances being released – is NOT a coincidence.”
“Can he play full back?” asked @DavidGB07.
@JohnHug76199286 then commented: “Does it have any experience running a recruitment dept or any negotiating skills?”
