Celtic fans have had the biggest say once again with the record total attendance for a Premiership season to be broken tonight.

A total of 3,629,874 supporters have taken in Scottish top-flight matches so far this campaign.

The current best during the SPFL‘s nine-year history is 3,639,331 (2018/19 season) meaning that a new record will be broken this evening if just 9,458 fans turn out across the six matches.

Our match at Easter Road will comfortably pass that number on its own, but the likes of Rangers and Aberdeen also being at home makes the new record a complete formality.

The SPFL were keen to shout about the impressive announcement on Wednesday morning.

Their era may only go back to the start of the 2013/14 season, but the news is still a sign that people in Scotland are invested in their teams.

Football stats site transfermarkt.co.uk only have the numbers up until the split but they once again show that Celtic fans have had the biggest say.

That’s hardly a massive surprise given that we have the largest stadium, but it’s still been an immense display from the Hoops support.

As we covered recently, Celtic have a hugely impressive 2022/23 sell-out record.

Only two of our 19 home Premiership matches haven’t sold-out this season, such is the love for Ange Postecoglou and this team.

Transfermarkt.co.uk have the total attendance for our 17 pre-split matches at 1,000,076 or an average of 58,828 per game.

Our travelling supporters will also have contributed to the figure. Every away end we have visited this season has been sold out with tickets incredibly hard to come by.

While this is often frustrating for match-going fans, it is generally a good indication of the health of Celtic right now.

Judging from these total figures, Scottish football doesn’t seem to be doing too badly either.
