Celtic fans have debated on our TalkingPoints platform the idea of Martin O’Neill being given a statue outside Celtic Park.

Billy McNeill and Jock Stein both have statues to immortalise their memories outside Parkhead and recognise two Celtic legends.

O’Neill has one of the best records out of any Celtic manager, but do fans think it is enough for the 74-year-old to deserve a statue?

Celtic fans want to see Martin O’Neill rewarded with a statue

We asked 67 Hail Hail fans on TalkingPoints if they think that the club should build a statue of O’Neill.

Given his success in his first spell as manager, and the possibility of winning a domestic double, the overwhelming feeling was that he did deserve such a feat.

One TalkingPoints user said: “A no brainer to have the two best managers in Celtic’s history standing outside paradise for all time.”

This supporter commented: “Absolutely. He is Celtic though and through and has came to our call twice this season and twice had to claw his way back from big points deficits. If he wins the league and especially the double this season it’s nothing short of a miracle, with the constant injuries to big stars.”

Another added: “Absolutely, I do not even have to think of it. Get it done. He is an absolute Genius. Good luck Martin & God Bless.”

Celtic figures also call for Martin O’Neill statue

It isn’t just the fans who believe that O’Neill deserves a statue, with many former Hoops players also calling for it to happen.

Frank McAvennie has been a huge advocate for a statue while former players like John Hartson and Chris Sutton haven’t publicly said the same, but have acknowledged that he is already a Celtic great.

If he can end the season with a domestic double then it should be an absolute no-brainer to immortalise the 74-year-old in that way.
