A brief look on Twitter on Friday evening would tell you that lots of Celtic fans were pretty impressed with Nir Bitton.

The 28-year-old was playing in familiar surroundings, as he took on some of his Hoops team-mates in the Scotland vs Israel game at Hampden.

And while the likes of James Forrest and Callum McGregor were part of the home side, it was Bitton who got the most credit on Celtic Twitter.

Bitton could play in Celtic back three

Perhaps it takes Bitton being on the opposition team for us to realise that he’s a pretty handy player.

The lanky defender rarely gives the ball away, with good passing ability and composure under pressure.

He could easily play as a centre-back in run of the mill Premiership games, although questions are likely to arise when he comes up against better forwards in Europe.

The former Ashdod man has only made two appearances under Neil Lennon so far this season – and remained on the bench for our recent games against Ferencvaros and Motherwell.

It would be nice to see more of him in the coming months. Especially if Lennon is planning to move to a back three.

Bitton’s ability on the ball means that he’s an ideal option to start the play from deep.
