Celtic fans have reacted to the news that Martin O’Neill is staying as manager.
It broke late on Friday that O’Neill has agreed to a one-year contract with the option of another after a week of talks with Dermot Desmond in London.
Robbie Keane had spent much of the week as the frontrunner, though this news was met with intense backlash from many in the Parkhead support.
As a result, O’Neill’s fairytale continues. So what have Celtic fans on TalkingPoints got to say about it?

Celtic fans react to Martin O’Neill news: ‘Super’
Some are ecstatic with the news that a club icon is remaining in situ. One fan said: Not just good news, but the best news we were all waiting for.
“Now that we have the best manager in the world lets go for the Champions League and then not just the double but the Treble this season.

Another said: “Been saying this since before Nancy was hired, it’s not a difficult decision by the board.
“He won the double so why wouldn’t that be enough to give him the job? Everyone goes on about younger managers, very few of them are as successful as their CV shows.
“Martin has bags of experience and a recent double in the trophy cabinet.”
Some fans are increasing a crucial caveat: O’Neill needs backing from the board. One user said: “Absolutely fantastic. Hopefully, now the board will give him solid backing. Great news!!”
Another fan said: “Now back the man Celtic Board”, whilst one warned: “Let’s give the man money to get the players he wants and what we need… but with this board, I’ll hold my breath.
More fans agreed regarding the board, with one saying: “Super news, hopefully get the backing to get the cash to get quality players in.
“Huge rebuild needed, but I’ll hold my breath with this shambolic board.”
It’s clear that O’Neill’s miraculous impact in his interim spells has done little to repair trust in the Parkhead hierarchy among the support.
One fan even fears that O’Neill could be a stooge for the board, saying:”W e’re getting carried away.
“Another Irish manager who they know won’t protest too much when we don’t spend money…”
Time will tell if the “Martin O’Neill effect” can continue to deliver results far superior to those of his predecessors.
