Celtic have confirmed that tonight’s crucial top-of-the-table clash with Glasgow City will be a record crowd for Fran Alonso’s ghirls.

As 67 Hail Hail reported yesterday, it was anticipated that SWPL fixture would be in hot demand due to the amount of hype surrounding the game. The club confirmed today that the fixture will be attended by a club-record crowd which was around 3000 for a fixture against Hibs in March last year. [Celtic FC]

Celtic will be looking to bounce back from the disappointment of the 1-0 defeat to Rangers last Thursday and there is no better place to do that in front of a sizeable crowd at Celtic Park.

A win tonight will close the gap at the top of the table to two points and help leapfrog Rangers, who are in second place in that coveted Champions League spot.

The crowd will be swollen by The Green Brigade who plan to give a glimpse into what their proposal for the new supporter initiative ‘The Celtic End’ will look like.

If Celtic are victorious, next up for Fran Alonso’s team is Hibs at the Meadowbank Stadium on the 14th of May and then Hearts on the 21st of May at the Excelsior. The away trip to Hibs will be televised live on BBC Alba at 1:10pm.

How Celtic can set up a bizarre end-of-season finale

If Celtic win their last three remaining fixtures this could set up a bizarre scenario where if Rangers defeat Glasgow City on the final day of the season, Celtic could be crowned champions.

All of that depends on both Rangers and Glasgow City winning their remaining fixtures and depending on the results, goal difference could also play a major factor here.

As we currently stand, Celtic are in 3rd place on 72 points and a +99 goal difference. Rangers are second on 77 points and +97. Glasgow City are top with 77 points and +94.

It’s all geared up to be a cracking end of the season and tickets for tonight’s game are still available on the Celtic ticketing website here. Free for season ticket holders, £8 for adults and free for u16’s.

Tonight’s game is also live on Sky Sports.
