Celtic are widely expected to announce Wilfried Nancy as the new manager.

Almost every report last week since Celtic were said to be closing in on Nancy has hinted towards the Frenchman becoming the new Parkhead gaffer.

However, as the Nancy speculation continues to ramp up, Celtic made their own managerial update yesterday as training resumed at Lennoxtown.

And what the Celtic fans said in response to the announcement will not surprise anyone.

Celtic to continue with Martin O’Neill as fans send the board a furious message

Celtic have announced that Martin O’Neill will remain in interim charge for the St Mirren game at Parkhead this weekend.

Taking to X, Celtic said, “As Celtic continue with the process to appoint our next permanent manager, we can confirm that Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney will continue to manage first-team matters on an interim basis, until this process is complete.”

While not a single fan has complained about the legendary O’Neill remaining in charge, they are still fuming that three weeks on from Brendan Rodgers’ resignation, Celtic have still not got a permanent boss in.

Reacting to the update, Celtic fans were furious:

@mfirenze1986 was unimpressed and fired back, “So no actual update on the process. Just telling us that the interim management team continue to be the interim management team.

“Communication from the club to supporters is just as shambolically ran as the rest of the club. Outdated and complacent.”

We are going to guess that @rossaitkennn_ is being sarcastic as he replied, “Thanks for telling us our interim manager is remaining our interim manager until we announce a manager Celtic, wouldn’t have known otherwise 👏🏽”

And then there was also a ton of posts exactly like this one:

On the one hand, do Celtic deserve credit for trying to communicate? Or on the other, why make an announcement to announce nothing? It’s all very peculiar.

And as for Martin O’Neill? How does the interim Celtic boss feel about this news?

Martin O’Neill ‘happy’ to continue leading Celtic

The 73-year-old was hinting heavily that a manager could be announced soon just before the international break.

But now that it’s confirmed that he’s remain in charge of Celtic for the St Mirren game, O’Neill told Celtic TV, “First things first, I enjoyed the couple of days off because it was a bit of a whirlwind fortnight beforehand, but if there’s not an announcement now in the next few days, then I’m happy to still be here for the weekend game against St Mirren.

“First of all, we want the players coming back from international matches unscathed, which is the most important thing for us just now, now that we’ve got a few injuries to contend with.

“So whatever sort of squad we had for the Kilmarnock game, I wouldn’t mind having roughly the same again, but we can only deal with what we have and what we want to do, and we just want to play as strongly as we possibly can. But let’s see what the next couple of days bring.”
