Celtic fear clear to see as Rangers find a place for 7,500 Newcastle fans at Ibrox

Rangers will hand around 7,500 tickets to Newcastle United for an upcoming friendly in what must be pretty amusing scenes for Celtic fans.

Celtic have been without a major support at Ibrox ever since the home side reduced our allocation in 2018 following a series of derby defeats. (Daily Record)

Our ticket allocation went down from the entire Broomloan Stand (around 7,500 according to The Times) to just 800 in the corner.

We soon reciprocated with a similar arrangement for Celtic Park but we are known to be keen on a return to the old allocations.

Last week, new Rangers chief executive James Bisgrove confirmed that arrangements would be the same for next season with a maximum of 800 Celtic fans at Ibrox.

While it is unclear if Celtic would even take the tickets for games next campaign, it is amusing to see Rangers suddenly being able to accomodate thousands of away fans for a friendly.

The Ibrox side announced ticket details for their July friendly against Newcastle United on their website on Wednesday morning.

In it, they wrote: “Newcastle supporters have been allocated the entire Broomloan Stand for the fixture, with season ticket holders in this area able to purchase an alternative seat in an exclusive ‘movers sale’.”

So it turns out that moves like this can be done for one off matches.

It’s almost as if there’s something else stopping a similar Celtic support at Ibrox. Maybe the fear of seeing thousands of our fans rubbing it in their noses again.

Will this pave the way for larger Celtic allocations in the future? Well something has to change to avoid this amazing fixture being ruined.

As has been the case throughout this furore, the ball is in Rangers’ court.
