Neil Lennon has disclosed that Celtic had no positive tests in the club’s most recent batch of Covid-19 testing, whilst appearing on Celtic’s YouTube channel.
However, the Hoops boss does feel sympathy for Europa League opponents Sparta Prague, who are set to have players missing at Celtic Park due to the virus.
“We’re keeping an eye on”
“It may put them in a difficult position. It’s something we’re keeping an eye on. We’ve been tested yesterday, everyone’s negative again. We’ve had our own issues with the virus, we have a certain amount of sympathy for Sparta in this situation” Lennon said, whilst appearing on the Celtic YouTube channel.
Interestingly, as reported by the Daily Record, Sparta’s manager Vaclav Kotal has refused to confirm how many of his players are out of the tie due to catching Covid-19.
Still, dealing with Covid-19 cases seems to be as common as dealing with an injury for players these days. Look at what Celtic had to deal with ahead of the game against Milan.
Odsonne Edouard, Nir Bitton and Hatem Elhamed all missed due to the virus. Nor forgetting Ryan Christie missing the game against Rangers as he had to self-isolate.
Last thing Hoops need is more positive cases
However, things have now cleared up at Celtic. Of course, that could change next week when players go all over Europe on international duty. Hopefully that is not the case though. The last thing that Celtic needs is players missing more games due to Covid-19.
As for the game against Sparta, you have to hope that the Hoops can take advantage of the situation. Milan did when they played Celtic a fortnight ago. Celtic would have been far more competitive in that game had the virus victims been available.
Who knows just how competitive Sparta will be. That isn’t Celtic’s problem though. The Hoops just need to concentrate on getting the three points that will give the team a chance of making the Europa League last 32.
