Celtic’s summer recruitment came under scrutiny, but those who have joined have settled in well.

Sebastian Tounekti looks a bright talent while Benjamin Nygren has also impressed in patches.

The most surprising addition though has been Kelechi Iheanacho, who was written off by some before he even kicked a ball.

Iheanacho has hit the ground running, scoring goals and looks like the sort of striker that the Hoops badly missed last season.

It is still early days, but one figure believes he can make an impact like Odsonne Edouard did.

Tom English tips Kelechi Iheanacho to be a Celtic success

Since joining, the forward has scored two and assisted one in a Hoops shirt.

As a focal point up top, he offers Brendan Rodgers‘ side plenty of options in the attacking department, and BBC journalist Tom English thinks he has Edouard-like characteristics that could make him a success.

Speaking on Sportsound, he said: “I think he’s probably getting fitter and fitter as he goes along. He’s big, he’s powerful he’s a very good finisher as we could see the other week.

“I think he’s got a presence about him Iheanacho and he’s played in a lot of big games in England and he looks to have accepted the whole Celtic thing. He’s unfazed by it, he looks to be relishing in it and he could be the striker the Celtic didn’t realise they needed.

“I’m not comparing him to Odsonne Edouard but that kind of presence and a finisher, natural finisher, so I’m looking forward to seeing how he develops in the team but he does look a good player.”

Celtic face huge Kelechi Iheanacho problem in 2026

Everyone is enjoying Iheanacho’s start to life at Celtic, but there will be a huge dilemma that Rodgers must deal with.

Next year is the Africa Cup of Nations and Iheanacho will be called up by Nigeria for AFCON.

This means the striker will be absent for almost all of January and someone will have to take his place.

Daizen Maeda down the middle is one option while Johnny Kenny, Shin Yamada and Callum Osmand are all waiting in the wings.
