Celtic will have the opportunity to open up a nine-point gap on rivals Rangers with victory at home to Ross County this afternoon.
The Ibrox side have dropped more points after a 1-1 draw against St Mirren in Paisley. Jonah Ayunga put the Buddies ahead before James Tavernier converted a late penalty to bail his team out. It was another dreadful performance from Rangers, heaping further pressure on manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
Van Bronckhorst has been an unpopular figure with many Rangers supporters in recent weeks and this result will surely bring calls for him to leave the club to the fore again.
Regardless, Celtic have a huge chance to pile on the misery with today’s 3pm kick-off against Ross County.
We know by now that nothing is a gimme in the Scottish Premiership. The points today are far from guaranteed and Malky Mackay will be eager to pull off an upset of his own after fine work from Stephen Robinson’s men.
Nonetheless, we’re heavy favourites to come through the encounter strongly. The manager, as always, has named an exciting, attacking team that is supported by a superb bench full of quality.
Going into the World Cup break leading the league by nine points would be huge for the Bhoys. It would really tell the story of how good we’ve looked compared to the competition in the top flight.
It would also set Ange Postecoglou’s side up for a storming second half of the season, with three league derbies remaining, a Scottish League Cup semi-final and the Scottish Cup to look forward to.
