Cameron Carter-Vickers, I think it’s fair to say, had a bit of a journeyman career before he made the mover form Tottenham to Celtic.
The USA international defender was at Spurs for six years but didn’t make a single Premier League first-team appearance.
In fact, Carter-Vickers made just five top-team outings in a Spurs jersey and was sent out on loan to no less than six clubs in his time at the English club before making the permanent switch to Celtic.
So whilst most of his senior career education was made during temporary spells at the likes of Ipswich, Swansea and Celtic, Carter-Vickers admits he did still ‘learn a lot’ whilst at the North London club.
Three Spurs players who helped Carter-Vickers develop
Now a Celtic hero after his exploits at the club after just two years, Carter-Vickers admits three players at Spurs helped his development before he left them in 2021.
Carter-Vickers said [Daily Record], “At Tottenham, you obviously had Harry Kane who was a perfect pro. He lived his life perfectly and was dedicated.
“In my position at the time, there was Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen. For me at the time maybe they were the best centre-back partnership in the Premier League.
“That definitely helped. Just watching them every day in training I learnt a lot.”
Carter-Vickers is undoubtedly Celtic’s best defender. When he was out injured for spells last season, you could see a marked difference in how the Hoops backline struggled to cope without him.

The American international brings calmness and steel to the Celtic defence, making players around him undoubtedly play better.
You can see a difference in Liam Scales’ performances when he plays alongside Carter-Vickers compared to his other Celtic teammates.
Clearly his education behind the scenes at Spurs helped make Carter-Vickers a rough diamond but it’s at Celtic where the 26-year-old has been polished into a real gem and hopefully, he will continue to shine for a good few years yet at Parkhead.
