Celtic paid an initial fee in the region of £6m for Cameron Carter-Vickers, with add-ons potentially bringing the total up towards £10m, SBI Soccer has reported this evening.

The American outlet reports the figures in dollar amounts at just over $7m and $12m, which by today’s rate converts to the sterling totals above.

Larry Henry Jr has been at the heart of reporting around Cameron Carter-Vickers ever since Celtic’s initial interest last summer and has been a reliable source on the topic.

He’s had it confirmed to him by a source with knowledge of the deal that these amounts are accurate.

Ange Postecoglou described the transfer as a “significant acquisition” for Celtic and he’s not wrong. The club rarely shell out fees north of £6m, although it has happened increasingly over the last few seasons.

The Bhoys know what they’re getting in Carter-Vickers. He’s a committed defender with improving ball-playing ability who can play mid-week to weekend without any physical issues.

More than that, he’s become a crucial member of the Celtic dressing room since his arrival and has the trust of the manager.

If he continues the progression he’s shown at the Bhoys, the club will surely be looking at doubling their money at least if he wants to move on in a few years. His homegrown status in England will help in that regard.

Celtic have an excellent record of realising profits on high-performing players in Scotland.

It’s far too early for all that though. First, we can look forward to another stand-out season from the United States international!
