Cameron Carter-Vickers has refused to become embroiled in a media flare-up ahead of the Scottish League Cup final, sidestepping any drama surrounding Fashion Sakala’s recent comments about Celtic and Rangers.

Sakala referred to the Bhoys as ‘the other mob’ earlier in the week and in quotes carried by today’s papers insisted that Rangers were ‘far better’ than Celtic.

Obviously, they are strange comments to many observers in the face of evidence that shows the opposite to be true.

Celtic players too clever to bite on nonsense

However, Carter-Vickers defused what was said completely when asked about what was said today, stating in a media conference: “For me, I’ve got no problem with it.

“Every professional sportsman has to have some level of self-belief to get to where they are. For me, it’s a normal comment for a professional sportsman to make.”

As we discussed earlier, what Carter-Vickers says is undoubtedly true. Sakala is more than entitled to believe in his team – even if it’s odd to say it so confidently in public before such a game.

But while the Ibrox player may not escape the judgement of supporters and pundits, the Celtic defender is correctly not getting involved in the slightest.

It would be folly for the American international to hit back at Sakala, just as it was for Ryan Jack to bite on what Giorgos Giakoumakis said last season in the wake of a Celtic derby win.

Every Celtic fan wants this team to do their talking on the pitch. Hopefully, that’s what we witness on Sunday.
