That was rather fun from Celtic against Rangers!

Celtic fans haven’t said that too often this season, but the players have now been provided with a new lease of life under Martin O’Neill following Brendan Rodgers’ exit.

Chris Sutton has been a pundit for several years now, and it has been much longer since he retired from the game. And he probably never thought he would see the day that O’Neill would return to the dugout.

And what a return it has been!

Celtic beat Rangers 3-1 on Sunday to book their League Cup final ticket, as O’Neill rolled back the years to the delight of his former players, Sutton and Stiliyan Petrov.

This was O’Neill’s 25th meeting against Rangers, but it was Danny Rohl’s first after he became Rangers’ second permanent manager this season.

Following the conclusion of the game, Sutton couldn’t help himself as he rubbed salt into Rohl’s wounds with this brilliant reaction to the extra-time win.

‘But Rangers were on a Rohl, we all thought…’ wrote Sutton on social media.

And Stiliyan Petrov joins in with the Martin O’Neill love…

There is a sense of nostalgia to all of this, as Petrov also took to social media to show his former manager some love.

O’Neill was as enthusiastic and emotional as anyone on the touchline, and that was touched upon by Petrov.

‘Get the ball back, he is shouting,’ wrote Petrov on social media.

‘In a thrilling display of passion and desire, Celtic has reached the final! Under the guidance of Martin O’Neill and his young coaching staff, Celtic has shown what it truly means to play with heart and soul. Well done, boys!’
