Neil Lennon has once again come out to bat for the Celtic owners when asked for his views on the damning verdict of Brendan Rodgers.

Dermot Desmond gave a scathing assessment of Rodgers after the Northern Irishman resigned from his position as manager.

Just days before Rodgers’ departure, Lennon was slated by Chris Sutton for defending the board, however, the Dunfermline boss isn’t backing down from his views.

Neil Lennon continues to say Celtic are a well-run club

Lennon was on punditry duty for the Premier Sports Cup semi-final derby day clash between Celtic and Rangers.

Before kick-off, the former Hoops player and manager was asked about Desmond’s statement and if he had been left feeling vindicated.

While he didn’t go that far, Lennon once again sang the praises of Desmond and the hierarchy.

He said: “The statement from Dermot was quite stark but it put out there the disappointment he was feeling from the messages that Brendan was putting out publicly.

“I only spoke from my experiences as a manager there. All of the people who work behind the scenes are quality people.

“They’re not there for money, they’ve been brought in because they’ve done really well in their own field and have great business acumen.

“Let’s get it right, Celtic are a very well-run club. The vitriol that was aimed at them was unncessary and the messaging from the manager wasn’t as honest as it should have been.”
